LAS CRUCES, New Mexico- The skilled and compassionate hands of physicians, nurses, and other team members of MountainView Regional Medical Center support the health and well-being of patients who turn to us for expert care. We are here whenever needed.
Beyond providing clinical care, MountainView is a significant contributor to the economic health of Las Cruces and Doña Ana County as a major employer and tax-payer. Our 2022 community investment totaled more than $195 million.
We provided care during 553,200 patient encounters, including more than 50,000 emergency department visits, 8,400 inpatient admissions, and 11,000 surgeries. There were 482,000 outpatient visits, including physician clinic visits. Joy was delivered to local families with the births of more than 1,600 babies.
“We help people get well and live healthier by providing quality care for patients,” said Matt Conrad, Chief Executive Officer for MountainView Regional Medical Center. “Thanks to every team member's commitment and compassion, MountainView is a cornerstone supporting our patients' and community's health and well-being.”
MountainView Medical Group recruited providers to expand access to specialty care for residents. Providers who joined our medical group have expertise in gastroenterology, bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, general surgery, reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, general orthopedics, orthopedic spine surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery. We have also added a primary care physician, two family medicine nurse practitioners, and a pediatric nurse practitioner.
The hospital applied its resources to medical services, facilities, and technologies critical to patients. Our Facility upgrades projects enhanced safety, services, and a visitor's experience. The projects included: a new nursing call system, a pharmacy compounding room, new flooring, furniture and artwork on the hospital's first floor.
We also gave back to Dona Ana County by providing more than $26 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community's most vulnerable. And our payment of more than $14 million in property, sales, and GRT taxes help support civic resources and services.
MountainView is committed to supporting our community. In 2022, we gave $74,000 in donations and outreach. Employees hosted community blood drives and provided free flu shots to the greater Las Cruces area. Employees educated students on the dangers of drinking and driving and inattentive driving. We visited local schools teaching lifesaving CPR. We were also the title sponsor for a golf tournament that benefited Casa de Peregrinos, a local emergency food pantry.
The hospital's payroll of over $123 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services. Last year the hospital added enhanced benefits to help team members achieve their personal and professional goals, including assistance with student loan repayments, licensure and certification expenses reimbursement, and tuition reimbursement.
“The vital care we provide is only one part of our broad impact. We are a cornerstone of this community,” Conrad said. “We are committed to providing excellent healthcare services and making Las Cruces and Dona Ana County a healthier, better community for all.”
We are also working to develop the workforce for the future. MountainView is the sponsoring institution for four residency programs, including orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, transitional year, and osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine training. The specialized training attracts new physicians and expands care in our community. We welcomed 20 new residents for a total of 44 residents in the 2022-2023 academic year.
