MountainView Regional Medical Center is proud to be your community healthcare provider. We believe in the power of people to create an exceptional healthcare experience. We are a place of healing, caring and connection for patients and families in the community we call home. Our 2023 Community Benefit Report demonstrates the impact we continue to have in southern New Mexico.
Last year, our MountainView team played a vital role in more than 496,000 patient visits, where we helped people get well and live healthier. Around the clock, every day of the year, regardless of holidays, weather or other disruptions – we are here for our community. The skills, talents and energy of our employees and physicians power all we do. I am grateful for their steady focus on delivering safe, quality care and a compassionate patient experience.
We care deeply about all the patients we serve. Life-saving, medically necessary care is provided for all patients in our emergency room, regardless of their ability to pay. Members of our community who cannot fully afford their medical care are provided deep discounts or even charity care. We have resources to help them secure medications and medical support devices. Last year, we provided over $34.6 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community's most vulnerable.
The needs in our community are many, and we are proud to support the work of Casa de Peregrinos Emergency Food Program, Jardin de los Niños, and Amador Health Center, among others, as they address social determinants of health. We have also spearheaded important charitable initiatives, such as our Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, during which we collected 2,200 jars of peanut butter to help fight hunger in the community. This year, we hope to increase that total by partnering with the local Walmarts, Las Cruces Public Schools, and the City of Las Cruces.
MountainView Regional Medical Center continues to grow and evolve, and we are applying our resources toward the services, facilities and technologies that are important to our patients.
Our cardiac care program expanded with the addition of a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon, two board-certified interventional cardiologists and a board-certified nurse practitioner. Now, members of our community no longer have to travel far for the treatment they need. Our clinicians can detect and treat cardiovascular disease through minimally invasive treatments and advanced procedures, and surgery, if needed. Most importantly, our team will be here to help you recover and return to your daily routine.
In 2023, MountainView grew our orthopedic care and surgery team to include ten highly specialized orthopedic surgeons and providers. Our surgeons utilize robotic-arm-assisted technology and a multi-disciplinary approach to orthopedic care, enabling patients to recover quicker with less pain. MountainView is certified in knee replacement by The Joint Commission.
We’re also nurturing and developing the next generation of healthcare providers through our work with high school and college student nursing programs. MountainView is the sponsoring institution for medical residency programs in internal medicine, osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine and transitional year. After receiving their specialized training, some new physicians have chosen to stay in the Las Cruces community, expanding care.
Moreover, our impact extends beyond our campus, including the more than $13.5 million in taxes we pay that support critical infrastructure, such as first responders, schools and roads. Additionally, the payroll of more than $118 million ripples through the local economy as employees buy goods and services.
MountainView Regional Medical Center is essential to our community, and we can perform our vital role through the commitment and compassion of every team member. We are honored to serve and extremely proud of our hospital's $200 million community impact in 2023. To view the full Community Benefit Report, visit www.mountainviewregional.com/community-benefits.
