Las Cruces Cardiothoracic Surgeon Charles Dow Returns to MountainView Regional Medical Center

Las Cruces, NM — MountainView Regional Medical Center is proud to welcome cardiothoracic surgeon Charles Dow. M.D., FACS to the medical staff.
Dr. Dow is recognized in the community as a pioneer and leader in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. He developed the first cardiac surgery program for southern New Mexico in the early 90’s and has served the Las Cruces and El Paso communities since that time. He was the founding member and served as the chairman of the cardiovascular committee in Las Cruces. Dr. Dow was first in the state to perform off-pump, or beating heart, bypass heart surgery and first to perform the thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) -- a minimally invasive procedure used to repair a thoracic aortic aneurysm. And, he was the first in the state to perform endovascular vein harvesting for bypass surgery, which is now routine.
Dr. Dow served as head of the cardiac surgery program at MountainView Regional Medical Center from its inception in 2002 to 2009. Under his direction and leadership, the program was rated as the only 5-star cardiac surgery program (the highest rating) in the state New Mexico by HealthGrades.

Dr. Dow’s experience includes all aspects of adult cardiovascular, vascular, and thoracic surgery including beating heart surgery, valve replacement and repair surgery, endovascular repair of abdominal aneurysms, and lung surgery.

Dr. Dow completed his medical school training at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston where he was awarded membership in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society in1983. He continued his training with an internship and residency at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. Following general surgery training, he completed his cardiothoracic surgical fellowship at The Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Dow is a diplomat of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He has served as a hospital board trustee and remains an active leader in the surgical community. Dr. Dow has also been previously named as one the “Best Doctors in America” by his peers.
