3D Mammography
We offer 3D mammography, which creates levels of images through the breast tissue much like a CAT scan. While 3D mammography provides the most detailed breast imaging for all women, it is especially important to women with dense breast tissue. Due to the detail of these images, 3D mammography can reduce stressful call backs for repeat screenings. More importantly, 3D mammography can increase the early detection of invasive cancer. The American College of Radiology recommends annual mammograms beginning at the age of 40 for all women. Talk with your doctor about scheduling your mammogram.
Ultrasound
The Women’s Imaging Center offers ultrasound services, including pelvic ultrasound to help diagnose problems that can’t be seen using traditional X-ray equipment. It is used to get a clear picture of soft tissues, and can be helpful when diagnosing ovarian cancer. Often, ultrasound can provide a different view of questionable areas seen on mammography and can be used for visual guidance for biopsies of certain types of breast lesions.
Image-Guided Breast Biopsy
If your mammogram shows an area of concern, we offer ultrasound guided or stereotactic biopsy. Using advanced imaging allows your doctor to make an accurate and timely diagnosis.
Breast MRI
MountainView Regional Medical Center is pleased to offer breast MRI for continued patient care as part of our breast imaging services. Breast MRI is a test used to detect breast cancer and other abnormalities in the breast by capturing multiple images of the breast. These magnetically obtained images are combined using a computer to create detailed pictures. MRI may be used with mammography as a screening tool for detecting breast cancer in some people. This includes women or men with a high risk of breast cancer, women or men who have a strong family history of breast cancer or who have hereditary breast cancer gene changes. Breast MRI is not a substitute for a mammogram but is an important tool for additional imaging to create an accurate diagnosis.
Bone Density
A bone density test determines if you have osteoporosis, a disorder characterized by bones that are more fragile or prone to breaking easily. The test uses X-rays to measure how many grams of calcium and other bone minerals are packed into a segment of bone. Your doctor can order a bone density test to identify decreases in bone density before you break a bone, to determine your risk of broken bones (fractures), to confirm a diagnosis of osteoporosis and to monitor osteoporosis treatment
